Last night I was trying to get some beauty sleep when all of a sudden every fan, light, and other energy sucking machine came to a sudden stop. Their was a quick pop and a loud "srrrrrrrrch" sound that sounded like it came from outside. My husband opened the door to see what was going on outside and suddenly screamed "OH MY GOSH!". I jumped at the sound of his scream and followed him out the door to see what all the commotion was. I was surprised and a little frightened to see absolutely nothing outside. Nothing at all, not a speck of light anywhere for as far as the eye could see. It was pitch black! As my eyes adjusted to the surrounding darkness, my husband rambled on about the explosion he had just seen in the far of distance. "It was like nothing I've ever seen", he kept saying "there was a crash of lightning and then a deafening "BOOM"!" Just then we heard a neighbor call out "I saw the same thing!". Shortly afterward, another neighbor came out to find themselves surrounded by darkness. I went back into my room looking for a flashlight or candles. It was noticeably beginning to get warmer, as the air had stopped circulating and the heat was beginning to creep in.
Can you guess what happened? Think about the intense heat wave we have been experiencing. The entire state is using electricity to the max 24 hours a day just to stay cool. The power grid can only take so much.
Things are getting serious now. This can not go on forever. There are more and more people getting energy from the same place and there are only so much of the natural resources available to us. What are the alternatives to using fossil fuels to power our homes, businesses, and cars? How can you make a difference for future generations to ensure they are not left in pitch black? We could build a really big alternative resource such as a solar panel and connect it to our A/C's or other kinds of stuff that is needed that is powered by the electrical power lines.And that will be our back up if we ever have a black out again that will keep the power going if we ever have a black out that will hopefully give us time to fix the power or let it cool down.
ReplyDeleteI would first become a public speaker and teach people of the danger of using too many fossil fuels and how it's not only going to harm us in the long run, but the next generation and even the Earth. I would inform people about solar power gadgets and how they are better for us and the Earth. Also how they work with the Sun's energy. Not only that but Wind power systems because they are just as effective as the solar panels.

ReplyDeleteWell i think they weather is hot so we need air conditioner because then every one its going to get hot and then people can die.I think it was bad for you because you dith had air conditioned but in my house nothing happen.!?!?!?!?! and they should build more things like that.

When too many people use electricity there asking more and more electricity too there homes but it has a limit it can't withstand every home in the area so my believe is the power sub station blows up since it can't transfer that much energy at once. that's my theory

ReplyDeleteI think what happen was that so many people where using so much power at the same time that it went out and thats not good that we use so much not knowing that one day this was going to happen. But being the new generation I know that we are going to find something to make this better and then when we do we can use as much power as wanted!!!
ReplyDeleteAlso we should build a really huge generator for every community that they can used and maybe you can only use the generator during the day when its really getting hot.Wow, that would be scary for me to be in the pitch dark, the thing that came into my head when I was reading this that maybe one of the power poles had exploded because it was using way to much power, because now that its hot people are using more electricity and also maybe it was just so hot that the wires got burned and got on fire and exploded because that can happen since its been 100 degrees for the past month...
ReplyDeleteWell I think that they used to much energy and the power plant could not keep up with the high demand for energy and the black out ocured and the explosion i think it was the power plant. But we can help to stop the high demand for fossil fules by tring to get new ways to not us fossil fules and produce a new clean way to make electricity. Like a solar panel taped to every house in the city it can actualy save alot.lol =)

ReplyDeleteI think that the reason why the power went out is because people were probably using way to much electricity.A way to avoid this is to use more solar power energy by plasing solar panels and wind turbines everywhere.

The way that it can be stopped by using things less like if your done with it unplug don't leave it plugged in then it waste more electricity. So yeah maybe you should see what happens then.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of wind energy for homes, because the suns not always out for solar panels. And for cars get the plug in hybrids or something like that. And it is pretty obvious that because of our long streak of +100 degree weather that everybody is using more electricity so some transformer drums exploded because all the need for electricity!

ReplyDeleteIf I were to be honest I would say that people should be more resourceful with the advantages that we are give n and really pay attention to what is going on around us and pay attention to how much we are using and when to stop in my opinion.

Wow... That would be crazy for me to see...I've been in a blackout at night and during the day. But I haven't been in one in a long time and i hope I don't because it would be hot in my place because the air conditioner would be out. I think the reason why they probably even blew out is because it has been hot and everyone has been using the air conditioner more then what they were supposed to. I don't really know how you should save the energy because allot of people don't care as long as they stay cool. But I think that they should at least not use it so often as they should.

I think that happen because a lot of people are using energy 24.7 and the energy power couldn't handle working a lot of energy. What I could do is be a speaker to the world. ReplyDeleteWe can begin by placing solar panels in houses, buildings, cars, etc... If we do this change to the community not only there won't be a problem, but it also helps the environment from getting polluted. This way we can close power plants, to conserve water.
ReplyDeleteWe could maybe turn off the lights when we are leaving somewhere or if nobodys in the room,we could turn the air conditioning to fan when your leaving the house. And the power maybe went out because because its so hot and the wires couldn't take that plus having their own heat to produce because of all the electricity that we are making to stay cool the wire couldn't handle it so it just shorted out and poped.

The people should stop wasting energy man!!That what happened to me like...a couple weeks ago.See I was watching TV,changing channels and then all suddenly the TV went off,the clock was off & it was dark.It was around seven and I went outside to get some light with my sister.My mom came back & I got in the house & the lights came back!!I told her what happened.If people want to cool off go to the shade of something.Look at the future,is going to get worse!!Try to save energy people!!
ReplyDeleteI think that for the alternatives we should use things we can find. Like for an a/c we should just get a bunch of little fans that are power by batteries. To make sure this won't happen again I will try to make people use alternative things instead of the real things, like the example I gave but it doesn't have to be my example.

I also think that the HOT wave that we are experiencing is very affectous to some of us. I mean, of course we need air and water to stay cool, but come on people also don't exaggerate too much. If you are going to turn on the A.C. or a fan don't turn it up all the way slow it down. Then when you are done with the fan unplug it because you are just wasting energy. I say that to use less energy we need to have windmills or solar panels to waist less energy. SAVE ENERGY unless you want to waken up in the middle of the night, go outside all sleepy and see nothing but pitch black. !

And one day in my house the power when out for like 30 min and I was still awake it was like 3:00 am and I saw my computer shut down and made a sound a weird sound. I think that a lot of people were using to much electricity, which over heated the power grid and caused it to explode making a blackout.I believe that if we use solar panels, wind turbines and even the sun.We could use the solar panels and wind turbines for electricity and when the sun is up we could open the shades and use the light from the sun.If we were to use a bike, walk, or even just use the car less that would help a lot too.Cars help globalwarming which means it's just going to get more hot, causing us to buy more fans and crank up the air conditioner, which is using more electricity and after awhile another blackout will happen, and it will continue to happen if we dont do something.We could start buy turning off fans, lights, tv's, radio's, etc. so we can save electricity.We could even unplug everything that is not being used like chargers, fans, and even kitchen appliances.In the future I plan to go to schools and neighborhoods talking about how the more electricity we use the more it not only effects us but the next generation, and even the world.

I would love to go around the whole city and put wind as many windmills to have energy from the wind. I'm sorry for what happened. I can definitely feel you're shocking amazement. I agree with you. With the advanced technology we have now a day can make it harder because of the resources we've been wasting. Since people are so smart with our technology they should also pay attention to what they're doing for example brainstorming something that can help the world. So the electricity comes from water and in Texas has never rain a lot so we are wasting a lot of electricity so are houses cool because is hot outside.So the day that the electricity was gone i was sleping went i wake up my mom and dad was talking about that and i did not know so then a want to schoool and every student was talking of that.
